This was a great article and I especially appreciate your comments over time to highlight how Autodiscovery works. There is more here than in most documentation provided by Microsoft.

Thanks again,

The answer to the question I recently posted was a Outlook2007 hotfix issue:
KB2412171 is a recent Outlook 2007 hotfix that can break autodiscover with new profile creation.

Remove the patch which arrived Jan 2011.
“when setting up new Outlook-profiles after installing this update. Instead of pre-populating the E-mail address field with the user`s primary SMTP-address, the user`s UPN was used. This of course caused Autodiscover to fail since the UPN was not an alias on the mailboxes.
After uninstalling the latest Outlook 2007 update the issue was resolved, and the primary SMTP-address was pre-populated.

Hello. In our environment the autodiscover settings with InternalURI seem to be set properly, and OutlookWebServices testing shows successes. The issue which I'm seeing is the mail profile is placing user@domain.org instead of user@primarysmtpdomain.org. Any suggestions? Thanks

What are you using for the reverse proxy? Are you attempting to do preauthentication with the proxy or just pass the creds back to Exchange? This links provides you step how to do it with TMG http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=894bab3e-c910-4c97-ab22-59e91421e022&displaylang=en

Hello,
we are using Reverse proxy and we have problem with autodiscover service from the internet. OWA, RPC, Mobile access everything is working fine. When I try to use autodiscover (for example open the page /autodiscover/autodiscover.xml login window is opened but username and password is not accepted and login windows is opened again.

Attempting to contact the Autodiscover service using the DNS SRV redirect method.
ExRCA failed to contact the Autodiscover service using the DNS SRV redirect method.

	Test Steps

Attempting to locate SRV record _autodiscover._tcp.foxconn.cz in DNS.
The Autodiscover SRV record was successfully retrieved from DNS.

	Additional Details
The Service Location (SRV) record lookup returned host mail20.foxconn.cz.
Attempting to test potential Autodiscover URL https://mail20.foxconn.cz/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml
Testing of this potential Autodiscover URL failed.

	Test Steps

Attempting to resolve the host name mail20.foxconn.cz in DNS.
 The host name resolved successfully.

	Additional Details
 IP addresses returned: 62.209.192.78
Testing TCP port 443 on host mail20.foxconn.cz to ensure it's listening and open.
 The port was opened successfully.
Testing the SSL certificate to make sure it's valid.
The certificate passed all validation requirements.

	Test Steps

	Validating the certificate name.
The certificate name was validated successfully.

	Additional Details
Host name mail20.foxconn.cz was found in the Certificate Subject Common name.
Testing the certificate date to confirm the certificate is valid.
Date validation passed. The certificate hasn't expired.

	Additional Details
 The certificate is valid. NotBefore = 12/27/2010 4:33:36 PM, NotAfter = 12/27/2011 4:43:36 PM
Checking the IIS configuration for client certificate authentication.
 Client certificate authentication wasn't detected.

	Additional Details
 Accept/Require Client Certificates isn't configured.
Attempting to send an Autodiscover POST request to potential Autodiscover URLs.
Autodiscover settings weren't obtained when the Autodiscover POST request was sent.

	Test Steps

ExRCA is attempting to retrieve an XML Autodiscover response from URL https://mail20.foxconn.cz/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml for user test2010@foxconn.cz.
ExRCA failed to obtain an Autodiscover XML response.

	Additional Details
A Web exception occurred because an HTTP 401 - Unauthorized response was received from Unknown.
